ACUPRESSURE SELF-HELP
HEADACHE
Muscle tension in the neck, shoulders and head are responsible for most headaches; therefore relaxation in this area of the body is important.
Also emotions, such as anger, frustration, disappointment, can lead to headaches.
ACU-ROUTINE (as a preventive measure or to relieve pain)
STEP 1 - The head.
- Sitting or lay down massage the base of the skull using circular motion, starting from the center, going outward towards the back of the ears. Follow the ridge of the skull bone, and if you find tender points, spend extra time there.
- Massage the temples. If you find tender points, spend extra time there.
- Massage the lower area of the forehead, starting from the point between the eyebrows, going out towards the temples. If you find tender points, spend extra time there.
STEP 2 - Go to the hands.
- Massage and/or gently squeeze and release the web between thumb and index finger (LI 4). Left hand first, and then right.
- Pinch the outside of the left hand, starting from the base of the little finger, going down to the wrist (SI 4)
- Then do the opposite side.
STEP 3 - Then go down to the feet.
- Reach down to your left foot and massage it top to bottom.
- Spend extra time working on the following points:
GB40 _ Anterior and inferior to the lateral ankle bone. GB 41 _ Top of the foot at the junction between the 4th and 5th metatarsal bones. ST 44 _ At the web between the 2nd and 3rd toe. BL 60 _ On the outside, between the Achilles tendon and the ankle bone.
- Breath and direct energy to theses points.
If you have difficulties reaching the ankles, with both feet on the floor, just leave one foot down, and cross the other one over the opposite leg.
INDICATIONS
Step 1 might be enough, but if not, go to Step 2, and then end with Step 3
I recommend you to follow each step, but if you have difficulties with any of these points or positions, just avoid them and go the next one.
Remember that you want to be relaxed. If holding the points is creating tension or frustration, just do only the ones that you feel comfortable with.
